The Basic Idea

The wave of conflicts and violences in Indonesia in the last few years, has been embracing all aspects of living and all segments in the society. It is indicating that Interfidei, as an institution which one of the institutional goal is to dissiminate the spirits of pluralism and peace, faces a greater challange, in which the future society holds more complex problems in the case of plurality.

The phenomena of fundamentalism/religious radicalism, politizing of religion, the politics of identity, political violence, exclusivism, inequality issues, narrow primordialism, to cultural permissiveness as the effect of globalization and capitalism, all are problems that triggered the conflicts and violences. Each issue is not emerge without context and is not an independent incident, but is intermingled and interconnected with other causes. Therefore, efforts on anticipating it and/or resoluting it could not simply carried out without spirit, sufficient knowledge and comprehensive skill.

In consequence, in order to understand the conflict and violence, Seminar and Public Discussion Division of Interfidei attempts to uncover the root of the problem and seeks the solution through the mediation of thematic and contextual activities.
